YANGON, June 13 (Xinhua) -- To mark World Blood Donor Day, which falls on Sunday, a blood donation event was held on Saturday at the University of Nursing, Myanmar's Yangon, bringing together more than 200 participants.

Among the participants was Kyaw Ye Htun, 26, who said it was his first time donating blood and that he felt excited about participating in the event.

"If my blood matches someone who needs it, I would be happy," he said.

"At first, I was nervous, but with help from the nurses, I felt comfortable. I will donate again in the future because donating blood is important during emergencies and is also a good deed," he added.

Ei Ei Mon, 45, said this was her seventh blood donation and that she donates blood during her birthday month to mark the occasion in a meaningful way.

"My father suffered from coronary artery disease, and at that time we could not get blood immediately," she said.

"Doctors told us to find donors urgently during the night. We struggled to get blood. After my father's operation, I realized how important blood donation is. Since then, I have started donating blood because it can help save lives," she added.

Win Htun Lin, 42, who has donated blood more than 10 times, said every person may need blood during emergencies and that even one blood donation can help save a life.

"Organizing events like this in our country is very good because it creates opportunities for people who urgently need blood," he said.

"One of my relatives once faced difficulties getting blood, so I do not want others to experience the same problem. I want to encourage more people to donate blood," he added.

Dawei Nandar Min, 36, who donated blood for the 22nd time, said she feels especially happy when her donation directly helps patients in urgent need.

"One of my relatives suffered from cervical cancer and urgently needed blood, so I donated blood for her," she said. "I feel very pleased because with my blood, I can help someone continue living."

Kaung Htet Kyaw, 32, said this was his ninth blood donation and encouraged others to participate.

"At first, I was worried about what would happen after donating blood, but later I became used to it and wanted to donate again and again," he said.

"Events like this help raise awareness that donating blood can save lives," he added.

Htun Min Latt, marketing manager at Arr Thit Man Company Limited, said more than 100 employees from the company donated blood this year.

"This is our tenth time participating in World Blood Donor Day," he said. "We provided donors with food, iron supplements, and small gifts, and we deeply appreciate everyone who donated blood to help people in urgent need."

He added that every blood donor contributes "one drop of humanity" that can help save lives.

The theme of this year's World Blood Donor Day is "One Drop of Humanity. Give Blood. Save Lives." Enditem
