TOKYO, June 13 (Xinhua) -- Two U.S. servicemen stationed in Japan's southernmost prefecture of Okinawa were arrested by local police on Saturday on suspicion of drunk driving, local media reported.
Police discovered the two cases during an early morning patrol, Kyodo News reported. Breathalyzer tests showed that both soldiers had alcohol levels exceeding the legal limit, and they were arrested on the spot. However, both suspects denied the allegations.
Crimes involving U.S. military personnel stationed in Japan, including grave offenses such as murder, rape, and robbery, have long been a serious and persistent concern.
Official statistics show that in 2025 alone, Okinawa police handled more than 100 criminal cases involving U.S. service members and related personnel. Enditem
