MOSCOW, June 14 (Xinhua) -- The total area affected by wildfires in Russia's Krasnoyarsk Territory nearly doubled over the past 24 hours, reaching more than 30,000 hectares, regional forestry authorities said on Sunday.

According to the regional Forest Fire Center, 97 forest fires covering a total of 30,306.6 hectares were active across the region as of Sunday morning. A day earlier, the region recorded 75 active wildfires affecting approximately 16,400 hectares. Authorities said there is currently no threat to populated areas.

The fires have spread to seven districts of the vast Siberian region, with most blazes concentrated in northern areas.

Authorities have increased wildfire response forces in the northern parts of the region to 1,100 personnel. Additional crews and more than 300 airborne firefighters have also been deployed.

To ensure rapid transportation of personnel to fire sites, up to 30 aircraft and water transport vessels are being used daily, while resources from Russia's Ministry of Emergency Situations have also been mobilized.

Meteorologists forecast that abnormal hot weather will persist in the region for several more days. A state of emergency for forest fires remains in place across Krasnoyarsk Territory. Enditem
