DAR ES SALAAM, June 14 (Xinhua) -- Tanzanian Prime Minister Mwigulu Nchemba said on Saturday that the government has tabled proposals in parliament to allow development funds for key sectors to be disbursed directly to dedicated accounts, aiming to speed up project implementation and improve public service delivery.
Addressing a public rally in the Iramba District of Singida Region, Nchemba said the move targets key infrastructure sectors such as water, roads, and energy.
He noted that the new system would ensure funds allocated for development projects reach implementing agencies directly, enhancing efficiency and timeliness.
"All funds for roads, water and electricity will no longer pass through the central government pool but will be channeled straight to respective sectoral funds," Nchemba said.
He added that the initiative would help accelerate projects that slowed in recent years as the government prioritized major strategic investments, including the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project, the Kigongo-Busisi Bridge and the Standard Gauge Railway. Enditem
