ISLAMABAD, June 14 (Xinhua) -- At least seven people were killed and 33 others injured in separate incidents caused by heavy rain and strong winds in Pakistan's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province over the past 24 hours, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
The casualties occurred when roofs and walls collapsed in the districts of Bannu, Shangla and Mansehra.
The deceased included two children, four men and one woman, while the injured comprised seven men, 12 women and 14 children, the authority said.
Meanwhile, authorities warned of a heightened risk of glacial lake outburst floods and flash floods in the province's northern mountainous regions due to rising temperatures and ongoing rainfall accelerating glacier melt.
The PDMA issued alerts to district administrations in Chitral, Upper and Lower Dir, Swat, Kohistan and Mansehra, directing them to closely monitor vulnerable areas and take precautionary measures.
Local authorities have been instructed to ensure timely warnings and evacuations in high-risk areas. Residents were advised to avoid riverbanks, seasonal streams and locations with strong water flows. Enditem
