DAR ES SALAAM, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese medical and public health experts in Tanzania's Zanzibar on Tuesday organized a Dragon Boat Festival-themed outreach, providing free medical services and health education to residents of Pemba Island as part of efforts to deepen China-Tanzania health cooperation.

The event, which attracted more than 400 residents, was held in the Michenzani community and jointly conducted by the expert team of the China-aided schistosomiasis control project in Zanzibar and the 35th Chinese medical team in Zanzibar.

Combining traditional Chinese culture with healthcare services, the outreach featured free consultations, disease screening, health education sessions and donations of supplies, including medicines and daily necessities.

Wang Wei, leader of the schistosomiasis control project, said the Dragon Boat Festival reflects the Chinese people's aspirations for health and unity, noting that the outreach served as both a cultural exchange and a practical step toward strengthening bilateral health cooperation.

Hou Jianwen, deputy leader of the Chinese medical team, said the initiative aimed to improve disease prevention awareness and promote healthier lifestyles among local communities, while continuing China's long-standing medical assistance to Africa.

Msanif Masoud, officer in charge of preventive services and health education on Pemba Island, said Chinese experts have contributed advanced medical knowledge and improved community awareness through sustained engagement.

During the event, experts conducted interactive sessions on disease prevention, while medical staff offered blood pressure and glucose tests, consultations and treatment guidance. The outreach also included donations of supplies and educational materials, further enhancing community health awareness. Enditem
