Russian security service foils alleged railway terror attack

MOSCOW, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Russian security forces have arrested a man in the Yaroslavl region who was allegedly preparing a terrorist attack on railway infrastructure at the behest of Ukrainian intelligence services, local media reported Tuesday.

The suspect was caught red-handed while attempting to plant a homemade explosive device on a railway facility, the regional press office of the Yaroslavl Directorate under the Federal Security Service (FSB) was cited as saying.

The suspect, a resident of Rybinsk city born in 2003, had been under long-term operational surveillance by security officials. The FSB said it had documented several instances of illegal activity by the suspect targeting both energy and transport infrastructure.

Following the arrest, the investigative department of the FSB in Yaroslavl opened a criminal case against the suspect on charges of attempted terrorism. Enditem
