SINGAPORE, June 17 (Xinhua) -- Singapore's non-oil domestic exports (NODX) surged 38.4 percent year-on-year in May, accelerating from a 24.4 percent increase in April, driven largely by strong demand for electronics linked to artificial intelligence (AI), official data showed on Wednesday.

Electronic NODX soared 94.8 percent in May, supported by robust AI-related demand, Enterprise Singapore said in a statement. Non-electronic NODX also rose 17.7 percent.

For the January-May period, NODX expanded 18.1 percent from a year earlier.

Meanwhile, non-oil re-exports (NORX) increased 33.6 percent in May, extending April's 29.6 percent growth. The rise was led by electronic NORX, which climbed 47.5 percent, while non-electronic NORX advanced 14.4 percent.

Singapore's total merchandise trade grew 39.7 percent in May, following a 33 percent increase in April, as both exports and imports recorded gains. Enditem
