GAZA, June 17 (Xinhua) -- A total of 1,005 Palestinians have been killed and 3,157 others injured by Israeli forces in Gaza since a ceasefire was reached in October 2025, Gaza-based health authorities said Wednesday.

The total death toll since Oct. 7, 2023 has reached 73,016, with 173,265 injuries, the authorities said in its daily update.

Separately, the authorities said in a statement that they "may be forced" to suspend the medical referral process for patients in Gaza seeking treatment abroad, citing continued restrictions and complications affecting their travel.

They said 36 lists comprising about 3,000 patients have been submitted since February and remain pending approval for travel and treatment.

Also on Wednesday, Hamas voiced hope that its flexibility in ongoing negotiations in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, will pave the way for agreements to implement the Gaza ceasefire agreement.

Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem said in a press statement that his movement, in its ongoing talks, has a central goal of ending the war in Gaza, expediting the delivery of relief, and launching the reconstruction process.

On Monday, Palestinian factions said they had submitted their official response to the mediators regarding the Gaza peace roadmap plan presented by Nickolay Mladenov, "high representative for Gaza" of the U.S.-led "Board of Peace."

The 15-point plan, unveiled in May, covers issues including security, international stability force and Israeli military withdrawal, and reconstruction.

Palestinian factions as well as Egyptian, Qatari and Turkish mediators are meeting in Cairo on the implementation of the Gaza ceasefire.

The fragile ceasefire between Hamas and Israel falters, with key provisions, including disarmament and reconstruction, yet to be implemented. Enditem
