GABORONE, June 17 (Xinhua) -- Botswana continues to pursue greater intra-African trade amid geopolitical tensions and supply chain disruptions, an official said on Wednesday.
Addressing the Botswana-Lesotho Business Forum held in Gaborone, the capital of Botswana, Gomolemo Madikgetla, board chairperson of the Botswana Investment and Trade Center (BITC), said that the forum arrives at a defining moment, not just for Botswana and Lesotho, but for the region.
Madikgetla said that Botswana remains firmly committed to creating a conducive environment for investment and private sector-led growth.
"Platforms such as this forum are critical in providing solutions to mitigate the effects of rising inflation, shortage of critical commodities, as well as threats to the safety of movement of businesspersons," she said.
Madikgetla stressed that building practical and mutually beneficial partnerships will translate into investment, trade expansion, job creation, innovation, skills transfer, and long-term prosperity for the citizens.
Keletsositse Olebile, chief executive officer of the BITC, said Botswana and Lesotho share a long-standing relationship built on friendship, mutual respect, and a common commitment to economic development.
He encouraged all delegates to engage actively and make the most of the platform, which builds on that foundation, creating space for businesses from both countries to explore trade opportunities, investment collaborations, and practical partnerships. Enditem
