ISLAMABAD -- Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as mediator in the U.S.-Iran peace deal, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office.

Earlier on Thursday, Sharif announced that the MoU has been signed electronically by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and his U.S. counterpart Donald Trump and has entered into force with immediate effect, marking a significant diplomatic development between the two countries. JAKARTA -- Indonesia's Central Sulawesi province has been under a disaster emergency status since Wednesday after a 6.7-magnitude earthquake killed one person, injured 79 others and affected more than 6,400 residents, the National Disaster Management Agency said Thursday.

MANILA -- The Chinese Embassy in the Philippines on Thursday said that all 70 detained Chinese nationals associated with a steel plant in Mindanao in the southern Philippines have been released.

The embassy said that after facilitating the release of 64 Chinese nationals on May 28, it kept urging Philippine authorities to speed up identity verification procedures for the remaining six detainees. MANILA, June 18 (Xinhua) -- At least 78 people were killed, and 30 remain missing after a 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck off Sarangani province in the southern Philippines on June 8, said the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Thursday.

According to the NDRRMC, the earthquake has affected over 357,000 families, or some 1.5 million people. Of those affected, around 5,500 families, or nearly 22,000 individuals, are currently staying in 47 evacuation centers. (Philippines-Earthquake) Enditem
