TOKYO, June 19 (Xinhua) -- A fire broke out at an elementary school in northern Tokyo on Friday, prompting the evacuation of all students and staff, local media reported.
The fire likely started in the music room on the fourth floor of the school in Kita Ward, Tokyo, shortly before 11:00 a.m. local time, public broadcaster NHK reported.
About 300 students and teachers were on the school premises at the time of the incident. Several students reportedly suffered smoke inhalation, while one teacher was injured, the report said.
Four people, including students who were on the second floor of the building, were rescued by emergency responders.
All students and staff were safely evacuated, and no one was left trapped inside the school, the report said.
A total of 68 fire engines and other emergency vehicles were dispatched to the scene, and firefighting operations were still underway as of noon, it added.
Police and fire officials are investigating the cause of the fire. Enditem
