Francisco Carvalho sworn in as Cabo Verde's PM

PRAIA, June 20 (Xinhua) -- Francisco Carvalho, leader of the African Party for the Independence of Cabo Verde, was sworn in on Friday as prime minister of Cabo Verde following the legislative elections held on May 17.

The inauguration ceremony took place at the Presidential Palace in Praia, the country's capital. According to a list released by the Presidency, the new government has 18 members, with Carvalho also serving as finance minister.

In his inaugural speech, Carvalho said the new government was assuming the "honorable mission" of governing Cabo Verde with humility, a sense of responsibility and full dedication to the Cabo Verdean people.

President Jose Maria Neves, who presided over the ceremony, congratulated the new government and wished its members success in carrying out their duties.

Carvalho, 55, previously served as mayor of Praia. He succeeds Ulisses Correia e Silva, who had served as prime minister since 2016. Enditem
