ACCRA, June 20 (Xinhua) -- The Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana (CIUG), together with the 15th batch of the Chinese medical team in Ghana, jointly held an event on Friday to celebrate the traditional Chinese Dragon Boat Festival.
The event featured free medical consultations and screenings, a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) workshop, a handicraft workshop, Chinese cuisine, and a variety of games.
Liu Baijun, Chinese director of CIUG, said the Dragon Boat Festival, also known as the Duanwu Festival, has always been about health and wellness, "and the combination of the festival fun and medical care shows our best wishes for health and life."
The Confucius Institute hopes that through the lively activities, participants will know more about Chinese culture and traditional medical wisdom beyond textbooks, he said.
Han Zhuoxing, leader of the Chinese medical team, said providing the free services will help deepen the strong bonds between the Chinese and Ghanaians.
"TCM has become a bridge to boost cultural and health exchanges, and strengthen the friendship between China and Ghana," Han said.
Richel Mensah, a third-year student at the University of Ghana, described the occasion as very insightful and beneficial, adding that the medical screening helped her know more about her health.
Mensah also praised the traditional Chinese cuisine served, including the marinated eggs and rice dumplings.
Joan Larbi, a first-year student of Chinese, public administration, and sociology, and Joshua Augustine, a candidate for HSK Level 4, described their experience with the Chinese language as interesting and challenging.
"The Confucius Institute is a very welcoming place. Everyone is nice, everyone is accommodating," Larbi said.
According to Augustine, "though the Chinese language is difficult at the beginning, later you will see the benefits of learning it. It also helps us in many ways to interact globally." Enditem
