ISLAMABAD, June 21 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir left for Bürgenstock, Switzerland, on Sunday to attend high-level talks on implementing the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the country's Foreign Ministry said.

The talks will bring together senior delegations from Iran, the United States and Qatar in their first formal engagement since the signing of the Islamabad MoU on June 17, according to an official statement.

The discussions are expected to focus on advancing the implementation of the understandings reached between Washington and Tehran under the Pakistan-facilitated agreement.

The statement said Pakistan would continue to support the implementation of the accord as part of its efforts to promote dialogue and lasting peace in the region.

On the sidelines of the talks, Sharif is expected to hold bilateral meetings with delegations from Iran, Qatar, Switzerland and the United States to reaffirm Pakistan's commitment to dialogue and regional stability.

The ministry said Pakistan's facilitative role reflected its "principled, balanced and constructive approach" throughout the crisis, including hosting earlier rounds of U.S.-Iran talks and maintaining sustained diplomatic contacts that led to the signing of the Islamabad MoU. Enditem
