LUSAKA, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Zambia's gross domestic product (GDP) expanded by 7.7 percent year-on-year in the first quarter of 2026, the Zambia Statistics Agency said on Thursday.

Statistician General Sheila Mudenda said during a monthly press briefing in Lusaka, the country's capital, that the stronger performance was mainly driven by a rebound in agriculture following improved rainfall.

Mudenda said agriculture, forestry and fishing contributed 21.7 percent to overall economic growth, while wholesale and retail trade accounted for 21.4 percent.

She noted that financial and insurance activities grew by 5.8 percent, while manufacturing expanded by 5.4 percent.

Meanwhile, the country's annual consumer inflation declined to 6.5 percent in June from 6.6 percent in May, she added. Enditem
