MEXICO CITY, June 27 (Xinhua) -- Harry Kane became England's all-time leading World Cup scorer while Croatia, Algeria and Austria secured knockout berths in a dramatic final day of the World Cup group stage on Saturday.
In Kansas City, Sasa Kalajdzic scored in the 96th minute to earn Austria a thrilling 3-3 draw with Algeria, sending both teams into the last 32 and eliminating Iran.
Argentina finished top of Group J, while Austria took second place and will face Spain in the round of 32. Algeria advanced as one of the best third-placed teams and will meet Switzerland.
Marko Arnautovic put Austria ahead before Rafik Belghali equalized before halftime. Marcel Sabitzer restored Austria's lead early in the second half, only for Riyad Mahrez to level for Algeria.
Mahrez struck again in the 93rd minute, but Kalajdzic replied three minutes later to secure Austria's place in the knockout stage.
In New Jersey, Kane and Jude Bellingham struck second-half goals as England beat Panama 2-0 to finish top of Group L. England finished with seven points while Panama lost all three group matches.
"It is a proud one for sure," Kane said after notching his 11th World Cup goal, surpassing the record he shared with Gary Lineker.
"I spoke before the tournament about the World Cup being the biggest competition we play as professional footballers, so to get to 11 goals is a proud feeling."
In Philadelphia, Nikola Vlasic scored late as Croatia claimed second spot in Group L with a 2-1 win over Ghana, which also progressed to the next stage.
Petar Sucic put Croatia ahead with a low 30-yard drive before Derrick Luckassen equalized by volleying in at the far post after Ernest Nuamah's curling free-kick.
Croatia restored its lead in the 83rd minute when Torino midfielder Vlasic headed Luka Modric's corner beyond Benjamin Asare.
"We're not going to be euphoric about this," said Croatian manager Zlatko Dalic. "We're going to prepare for the next match and try to win that as well."
Colombia secured top spot in Group K after a goalless draw with Portugal at Miami Stadium. The South American side finished the group stage with seven points, two ahead of second-placed Portugal, which also advanced.
In Atlanta, Yoane Wissa scored twice as the Democratic Republic of the Congo progressed to the knockout stage for the first time with a 3-1 win over Uzbekistan.
Fiston Mayele also scored for the African side while Eldor Shomurodov was on target for Uzbekistan, which was eliminated.
Meanwhile, Lionel Messi came off the bench to become the first player to score in seven consecutive World Cup matches as Argentina beat Jordan 3-1 in Dallas.
