Peru sends 14.5 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Venezuela

LIMA, June 28 (Xinhua) -- A Peruvian Air Force aircraft departed Sunday with 14.5 tonnes of humanitarian aid for Venezuela to assist people affected by the powerful earthquakes that have killed more than 1,400 people, Peru's Defense Ministry said.

The cargo sent by the Peruvian government includes food and non-food assistance, including essential items such as rice, noodles, vegetable oil and bottled water, as well as tents, warm clothing, household goods and kitchenware, the ministry said.

Luis Vasquez, head of the National Institute of Civil Defense, said the shipment included 50 tents, each able to shelter five people.

"We are fully prepared to put all our resources at disposal to help," he said. Enditem
