JERUSALEM/BEIRUT, June 28 (Xinhua) -- The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement on Sunday that it killed a Hezbollah militant involved in the overnight encounter in southern Lebanon in which an Israeli commanding officer was killed.

Israel's state-owned Kan TV reported that the officer was killed and another soldier wounded after a Hezbollah militant opened fire on an Israeli unit entering the town of Deir Siriane to check a "suspicious building."

The IDF said that after conducting extensive searches in the area, its soldiers located the militant inside another structure and killed him.

Meanwhile, the Lebanese Health Ministry said that two civilians were injured after an Israeli drone dropped a stun grenade on the southern Lebanese village of Burj Qalaouiyeh in the Bint Jbeil district on Sunday.

Israel has continued to carry out military operations despite a framework agreement reached by the two countries on Friday, which was intended to pave the way for "lasting peace and security."

According to the Lebanese Health Ministry, the cumulative toll from Israeli attacks since March 2, when the latest round of flare-ups between Hezbollah and Israel erupted, has risen to 4,247 killed and 12,195 injured. Enditem
