HANOI, June 29 (Xinhua) -- The Political Bureau of the 14th Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee (CPVCC) has called for amendments to criminal policies in the economic and technology sectors to shorten prison terms and increase financial penalties, while encouraging investment in economic development, local media Tuoi Tre reported Monday.

The statement was included in a conclusion on strengthening crime prevention and control under the new circumstances, signed recently by Tran Cam Tu, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPVCC and a permanent member of the Secretariat of the CPVCC.

The Political Bureau also instructed relevant agencies to study stronger criminal measures against environmental crimes, food safety violations and offenses that endanger public health, the report added.

It also urged stronger international cooperation in combating crime with countries that have strong economic, scientific and technological capabilities and large Vietnamese communities, according to the report. Enditem
