ADDIS ABABA, July 2 (Xinhua) -- Ethiopian Airlines, Africa's leading carrier, has launched a new passenger service to Lyon, the third-largest city in France, the airline said in a statement on Wednesday.
"We are truly delighted to connect our passengers to an additional getaway in France with our new flights to Lyon," Mesfin Tasew, chief executive officer (CEO) of Ethiopian Airlines Group, was quoted as saying.
Tasew said the commencement of the new service marks another milestone in Ethiopian Airlines' network expansion strategy, offering passengers additional seamless connections between Europe and Africa.
He noted that the new route demonstrates the airline's commitment to expanding its global network while deepening bilateral ties between Ethiopia and France.
According to the statement, the route links Lyon to Ethiopian Airlines' extensive global network via Addis Ababa, opening greater travel opportunities and strengthening business, tourism, and trade relations between France and destinations across Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and beyond.
The CEO also disclosed that Ethiopian Airlines plans to launch five additional international destinations by the end of 2026 as part of its continued global expansion strategy.
"As Africa's leading airline, we will continue investing to support the economic integration of the continent and strengthen connectivity between Africa and the rest of the world," Tasew said. Enditem
