YEREVAN, July 4 (Xinhua) -- Armenia's Constitutional Court on Saturday rejected appeals seeking to overturn the results of the June 7 parliamentary elections, upholding the Central Election Commission's official certification of the vote, Armenpress reported.

The decision dismisses challenges filed by seven political parties and alliances that contested the election results. The petitioners had asked the court to invalidate the results, order a repeat vote or redistribute parliamentary seats.

Saturday's ruling followed six days of hearings totaling nearly 50 hours. The court heard final arguments on July 1 before retiring to deliberate.

According to the final results announced by the Central Election Commission, the ruling Civil Contract party won the election with 49.745 percent of the vote. The Strong Armenia Alliance secured 23.271 percent, while the Armenia Alliance received 9.923 percent. The three political forces won 64, 29 and 12 seats in the National Assembly, respectively.
