ADEN, Yemen, July 5 (Xinhua) -- A cargo vessel came under attack by unknown armed assailants off Yemen's Red Sea coast on Sunday, triggering a distress alert, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said.

In a statement posted on the social media platform X, the UKMTO said it had received a report of the incident about 30 nautical miles southwest of the port city of Hodeidah.

The UKMTO said authorities were investigating the incident and did not immediately provide details about the attackers, casualties or damage to the vessel.

It advised vessels transiting the area to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity.

The latest incident came amid persistent security concerns in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, where commercial vessels have faced a series of attacks, attempted boardings and piracy-related incidents in recent months. Enditem
