1st LD Writethru: Israeli airstrikes hit S. Lebanon as drone flies over Beirut suburbs

BEIRUT, July 5 (Xinhua) -- Israeli warplanes struck the outskirts of the town of Nabatieh al-Fawqa in southern Lebanon on Sunday, while Israeli forces conducted demolition explosions and artillery shelling in several border areas, according to Lebanon's state-run National News Agency (NNA).

According to the NNA, Israeli forces carried out a controlled explosion in the town of Al-Tiri and extensive demolition explosions in the towns of Beit Yahoun and Kounine, all in the Bint Jbeil district. Israeli artillery also shelled the vicinity of the town of Qantara.

The NNA also reported that an Israeli drone dropped a stun grenade on the town of Al-Mansouri in the Tyre district. No casualties were immediately reported.

Israeli drones were also seen flying over villages and towns near Tyre, as well as at low altitude over the city of Baalbek and neighboring villages in eastern Lebanon, according to the NNA. Another drone was reported flying over Beirut and its southern suburbs.

No immediate information was available on the extent of the damage.

Separately, Lebanon's Public Health Emergency Operations Center said the cumulative death toll from Israeli attacks since March 2 has risen to 4,304, with 12,203 others wounded. Enditem
