DHAKA, July 7 (Xinhua) -- Bangladesh's inflation decreased to 9.16 percent in June from 9.42 percent in May, according to the latest data from the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) on Monday.
The Consumer Price Index released by the BBS showed that food inflation eased slightly to 8.60 percent in June from 9.06 percent in the previous month.
Inflation for non-food items edged down to 9.61 percent in June from 9.71 percent in May, the data showed.
Meanwhile, the country's average inflation remained elevated at 8.89 percent in the fiscal year 2025-26 (July 2025-June 2026), much higher than the revised budgetary target of 7 percent for the fiscal year.
In the previous 2024-25 fiscal year, overall inflation was 9.43 percent.
The Bangladeshi parliament on June 30 passed a record 9.38-trillion-taka (nearly 77 billion U.S. dollars) national budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year.
In line with the budget, the Bangladeshi government aims to reduce inflation to 7.5 percent and raise GDP growth to 6.5 percent in the current fiscal year. Enditem
