KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysian ports have emerged as a safe and reliable part of a secure logistics chain even as tensions in the Middle East and elsewhere have disrupted the global maritime economy, Malaysian Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook said on Wednesday.

This has been evidenced by Malaysian ports continuing to record higher shipping volumes as vessels reroute to the country's shores due to ongoing tensions in the Middle East and every effort must be made to ensure there are no tensions in the Strait of Malacca and other regional waterways, Loke told reporters following his keynote speech at the ASEAN Ports and Logistics Exhibition and Conference 2026 in Kuala Lumpur. ISLAMABAD -- At least 54 terrorists and 42 others, including policemen, troops and civilians, were killed in three major engagements between security forces and militants across Pakistan's southwestern Balochistan province over the past four days, the Pakistani military said on Wednesday.

Speaking at a press briefing, the director general of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, said the attacks targeted an army convoy, a police check post, and residents in separate incidents, while security forces launched follow-up operations against the attackers. COLOMBO -- Sri Lanka's foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows rose to 1.04 billion U.S. dollars in 2025 from 759 million dollars in 2024, according to the United Nations Trade and Development (UNCTAD)'s World Investment Report 2026.

The report showed Sri Lanka's FDI inflows had moved from 434 million dollars in 2020 to 592 million dollars in 2021, 884 million dollars in 2022 and 713 million dollars in 2023, before increasing in the following two years. (Sri Lanka-Economy)

HANOI -- The Standing Committee of Vietnam's National Assembly, the country's top legislature, on Wednesday approved in principle a draft ordinance that streamlines court procedures for ordering compulsory rehabilitation of drug-dependent minors aged between 12 and 18, the Government Portal reported.
