BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, July 9 (Xinhua) -- Brunei's Department of Agriculture and Agri-Food has launched the Brunei Pesticide-Free Certification, a national quality assurance scheme aimed at certifying and promoting locally grown fruits and vegetables produced without the use of chemical pesticides, official media reported on Wednesday.

According to Pelita Brunei, the certification forms part of the government's ongoing efforts to strengthen food safety standards, support sustainable agricultural development and boost consumer confidence in locally produced fresh produce.

The department said farms and production sites seeking certification will undergo a comprehensive assessment covering planting practices, farm management, monitoring systems and post-harvest handling.

Only farms that comply with the prescribed requirements will be awarded certification and permitted to display the official "Brunei Pesticide-Free" label on their products. Enditem
