MADRID, July 12 (Xinhua) -- China's Zhu Jingyi and Li Mengqi settled for silver in the recurve mixed team event at the fourth stage of the 2026 Archery World Cup here on Sunday, losing to host Spain in a dramatic shoot-off.

Competing before a passionate home crowd at Madrid's National Complutense Stadium, Spain's Elia Canales and Andres Temino Mediel edged the Chinese pair with two perfect 10s in the shoot-off after the match finished level following four sets.

Spain took the opening set 38-37 before China fought back as the contest remained evenly poised. The teams were tied 3-3 after three sets, and China appeared to seize the initiative in the fourth with two Xs and a 10. However, Li's final arrow landed in the nine-ring, allowing Spain to force a shoot-off.

"It's a really great feeling," world champion Mediel told World Archery after the victory. "Having everyone here cheering us on, my family, all my teammates, it was really exciting to be able to win at home."

The silver medal continued a strong season for Zhu, who has won five World Cup titles this year, while Li also claimed an individual World Cup victory at the second stage in Shanghai.

South Korea claimed the men's and women's recurve team gold medals after defeating France and the United States respectively in Sunday's other two team finals. Italy took bronze in both the men's team and mixed team events.

In the individual finals, Marie Horackova of Czechia defeated Elif Gokkir of Türkiye 6-0 to claim the women's title, while the men's gold went to another Turkish archer, Mete Gazoz, who swept Mauro Nespoli of Mexico 6-0.

The Madrid stage is the final stop on the World Cup circuit this season, with the World Cup Finals to be held on September 12-13 in Saltillo, Mexico. Enditem
