ABIDJAN, July 13 (Xinhua) -- Twenty-four people were killed and 36 others injured after an intercity bus plunged into the Bafing River on Monday morning along the Touba-Biankouma road in northwestern Cote d'Ivoire, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Transport and Maritime Affairs.
The bus was carrying 69 passengers and crew members from Odienne to Yamoussoukro when it veered off the road and plunged into the river, the statement said.
The ministry said the cause of the accident has yet to be determined. Rescue teams were deployed to search for passengers who remain missing.
The ministry also urged all road users to exercise caution and strictly observe traffic regulations, particularly during the current rainy season. Enditem
