1 dead, 2 missing after boat capsizes in San Francisco Bay

SAN FRANCISCO, July 14 (Xinhua) -- One person was killed and two others were still missing after a pontoon-style pleasure boat carrying 19 people capsized and sank in San Francisco Bay on Tuesday afternoon, local authorities said.

Sixteen people were rescued in a search-and-rescue operation involving the San Francisco Fire Department, the U.S. Coast Guard and other agencies, officials said at a press briefing.

The San Francisco Fire Department received an emergency call shortly after 3:30 p.m. local time (2230 GMT). Search operations for the two missing people were continuing.

The cause of the incident, which happened near Alcatraz Island, was not immediately known. The incident was initially reported as a fire. However, authorities said there was no evidence that a fire had occurred aboard the vessel. Enditem
