GAZA, July 22 (Xinhua) -- Khalil al-Hayya, political bureau chief of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), said on Wednesday that the movement's priorities are ending the war in the Gaza Strip, advancing reconstruction, and preventing the displacement of Palestinians.
In a televised statement, al-Hayya said Hamas seeks "a complete cessation of the aggression" and a full Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.
He said that the movement also aims to restore normal living conditions, prevent displacement plans, and accelerate reconstruction without making what he described as political concessions.
Al-Hayya explained that Hamas is ready to cooperate with all Palestinian factions under an agreed-upon national program that includes achieving the priorities of the Palestinian people, emphasizing that Gaza is part of the "Palestinian entity."
He also called for the immediate launch of a national dialogue and the establishment of mechanisms to rebuild Palestinian national institutions, particularly the Palestine Liberation Organization, on what he described as democratic and consensus-based foundations.
Al-Hayya reiterated Hamas' rejection of any measures it said would undermine the rights of the Palestinian people under international law, including the right to self-determination and statehood.
The Hamas chief called on the countries sponsoring the negotiation process between Hamas and Israel to exert real pressure on Israel to implement the ceasefire agreement.
The ceasefire agreement, in effect since Oct. 10, 2025, has encountered obstacles in implementing several of its key provisions, including disarmament, the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, and the delivery of humanitarian aid. Enditem
