Japan's belligerent stance destabilizes Asia-Pacific: Russian deputy FM

MOSCOW, July 29 (Xinhua) -- The belligerent stance of the Japanese authorities negatively affects stability in the Asia-Pacific region and directly undermines the security interests of neighboring countries, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko said on Tuesday.

Rudenko slammed the militaristic trajectory of the Takaichi administration, which he said is characterized by deviation from the peace clause of the constitution, a significant increase in military spending, large-scale purchases of foreign weapons, and relaxed arms export restrictions, according to an interview posted on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The Japanese leadership's remarks about a possible revision of the "three non-nuclear principles" are completely unacceptable, he said, adding that Moscow has repeatedly warned Tokyo through both diplomatic channels and public statements about the negative consequences of such moves.

Regarding Russia-Japan relations, the diplomat said that only if Japan takes concrete steps to abandon its anti-Russian stance can the two countries resume dialogue and cooperation. Enditem
