Iran's IRGC says it hit U.S. air base in Jordan

TEHRAN, July 29 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) said on Wednesday that its forces targeted a U.S. air base in Jordan with ballistic missiles and stopped three "violating" oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz.

In statements published on its news outlet Sepah News, the IRGC said the attack by its aerospace forces on the U.S. air base and central command center in Jordan was in response to "acts of aggression" by the United States.

The IRGC said the tankers, which were moving along the "unsafe and illegal" route in the Hormuz Strait despite the warnings, were hit and stopped by its naval forces.

It further said that its navy continues to exercise full control and management over the Strait, warning that the U.S. "illegal interventions and orders" to vessels in the region will not go unanswered.

During the past days, the U.S. military launched multiple waves of strikes against Iranian targets, saying they were in response to Iranian attacks on vessels in the Strait and aimed at "degrading Iran's ability to threaten commercial shipping."
