Bangladesh PM inaugurates July Uprising memorial museum in Dhaka

DHAKA, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- Bangladeshi Prime Minister Tarique Rahman officially inaugurated the July Mass Uprising Memorial Museum on Wednesday, unveiling a plaque during a ceremony at the museum premises in Dhaka.

The event was attended by Muhammad Yunus, chief adviser of Bangladesh's previous interim government, which converted Ganabhaban, the erstwhile official residence of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, into a museum.

The 2024 July Uprising began as a student-led protest against government job quotas and evolved into a mass movement, which ended Hasina's rule that began in 2009.

Hasina resigned as prime minister amid nationwide political chaos and fled to India on Aug. 5, 2024.

The museum's galleries feature a range of exhibits, including artifacts, photographs, documents, video footage, personal effects, and witness accounts from the July uprising. Enditem
