ISLAMABAD, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Wednesday confirmed that three Pakistani nationals were killed and another injured in a Houthi attack on a commercial vessel in the Red Sea on Tuesday.
In a statement on social media, Dar said he had learnt about the incident and expressed condolences to the bereaved families.
"Pakistan strongly condemned the attack on the non-combatant commercial vessel, saying such attacks endanger innocent lives, violate international law and pose a serious threat to freedom of navigation, maritime security and the safety of commercial shipping in the Red Sea," he said.
The foreign minister said Pakistan was in contact with the relevant Saudi authorities and the internationally recognized government of Yemen to ascertain further details and circumstances surrounding the incident.
He directed Pakistan's Embassy in Riyadh to coordinate immediately with the concerned authorities and pursue necessary measures for the retrieval and repatriation of the mortal remains of the deceased Pakistani nationals.
The embassy was also instructed to ensure all possible assistance to the injured Pakistani national, Dar said, adding that Pakistan was closely monitoring the situation and would remain in contact with the concerned authorities. Enditem
