ALMATY, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- The first 50-megawatt facility under the Data Center Valley project in Kazakhstan's northeastern Pavlodar region is scheduled to be commissioned in June 2027, the press service of the Kazakh Prime Minister said Thursday.

The project will create a new export-oriented sector of Kazakhstan's digital economy and provide IT infrastructure for developing domestic artificial intelligence (AI) solutions, the press service said in a statement.

The government also reviewed preparations for a project that would allow foreign countries to store their data in Kazakhstan while retaining full legal sovereignty over the information, the statement added.

The Data Center Valley project, with planned investment of 10 billion U.S. dollars, will enable Kazakhstan to establish a large-scale computing cluster powered by 100,000 graphics processing unit chips and is estimated to generate at least three billion dollars in annual export revenue, said Zhaslan Madiyev, the country's deputy prime minister and minister of AI and digital development.
