TASHKENT, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- China won three gold medals and one silver medal to top team standings at the 38th International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI 2026) in the Uzbek capital of Tashkent.
The event, held from Aug. 9 to 15, brought together nearly 400 contestants from over 90 countries and regions. Over two competition days, participants tackled complex tasks covering algorithm design, data structures and programming implementation under strict time constraints.
Chinese contestant Xu Qiwen topped the global leaderboard with 498.27 points as the overall champion, while teammate Zhao Shenghao secured third place.
The IOI is one of the five major international science olympiads. First held in Bulgaria in 1989, the annual competition will next take place in Germany, according to the organizing committee. Enditem
