RIGA, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- This weekend, Latvia's capital, Riga, is alive with celebration as it marks its 825th anniversary of founding with a vibrant lineup of events taking place on Saturday and Sunday.

Founded in 1201, Riga is honoring its rich history by blending traditional arts with contemporary creativity.

At the Crafts Market in Dome Square, visitors can explore handmade ceramics, jewelry, and textiles by local Latvian artisans, while modern innovation takes the spotlight with a spectacular laser, fountain, and video show on the waters of the Daugava.

On Saturday, at Verman's Garden, visitors not only experienced Latvian culture but also had the opportunity to explore the traditional customs of Spain, Sweden, the United Arab Emirates, China and other countries.

The Chinese cultural presentation, featuring dazzling Tibetan dances, hulusi performances, folk songs, calligraphy displays and traditional crafts of the Bai and Yi ethnic groups in China, drew enthusiastic applause and sparked great interest among the crowd.

"I am absolutely delighted. I have great respect for the Chinese people. They are so hardworking, colorful, and joyful. I think it's magnificent," local resident Eugenia said.

Natalya, a Riga-based tour guide who has also worked with Chinese delegations, expressed her appreciation: "I am very glad that Chinese performers have come to Riga. I would like to congratulate everyone on this wonderful city anniversary." Enditem
