BERLIN, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- Germany inaugurated a new technology center for drone security on Tuesday to enhance the safe operation of unmanned aerial systems and protect critical infrastructure from potential misuse.
The center, located in Cochstedt, Saxony-Anhalt, was jointly launched by the Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI), the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR), and the German Aerospace Center.
According to a statement from the BMI, the new facility aims to bridge the gap between research and practical application, developing technologies to detect and defend against drones.
German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said the facility will allow the testing of state-of-the-art anti-drone technology under realistic conditions.
Two weeks before the announcement, a drone fitted with an explosive device was found at Leipzig Airport in eastern Germany. Enditem
