ISTANBUL, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- A Turkish pilot and a Chinese tourist were killed Wednesday in a tandem paragliding crash in southwestern Türkiye, local media reported.
The paraglider took off in the morning from a 1,900-meter-high launch site on Mount Babadag in the Fethiye district of Mugla province, according to local broadcaster NTV.
The glider crashed onto steep, rocky terrain shortly after takeoff, it said, noting that the cause of the crash remains unclear.
Due to the rugged landscape, a helicopter-assisted rescue operation lasted about 10 hours, NTV added.
The Chinese Embassy in Türkiye confirmed the tourist was a Chinese citizen and said it is in contact with the family to provide necessary assistance.
An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the accident. Enditem
