Trump announces Ben Moss as new assistant to president, White House staff secretary

WASHINGTON, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that Ben Moss will become assistant to the president and White House staff secretary, effective Sept. 2.

"I am pleased to announce that, effective September 2nd, Ben Moss will become Assistant to the President and White House Staff Secretary, replacing our new White House Counsel, Will Scharf," Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.

Moss has been deputy staff secretary before being policy director to Vice President JD Vance, Trump said, adding that Moss started in government as general counsel to Vance in the U.S. Senate.

On Aug. 9, Trump announced on social media that Scharf will become assistant to the president and White House counsel effective Sept. 1. Scharf will replace David Warrington, who is transitioning to the private sector, according to the post.

A recent report by Politico noted that Trump heads into the second half of his term with "key vacancies" among his senior White House staff.

Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced on Aug. 12 that she would leave her position at the end of August 2026.

James Braid, the top White House aide in charge of liaising with Congress, is also leaving the administration by Sept. 30, a person familiar with Braid's plans was quoted as saying. Enditem
