Imazsia Chinese Film Week 2026 opens in Budapest

BUDAPEST, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- The Imazsia Chinese Film Week 2026 opened Friday evening in the Hungarian capital Budapest, with the Chinese film "Dear You" making its Hungarian premiere as the opening film.

At the opening ceremony, Chinese Ambassador to Hungary Gong Tao said that since its launch, the Imazsia Chinese Film Week has continued to bring outstanding Chinese films to Hungarian audiences and played a positive role in promoting film and television exchanges between the two countries.

Gong expressed hope that the two sides would carry out more practical cooperation in film screenings, creative exchanges and talent training, and continuously enrich the content and forms of China-Hungary people-to-people and cultural exchanges.

Also speaking at the opening ceremony, Levente Horvath, president of the Hungarian-Chinese Youth Friendship Association, said that more and more high-quality works are emerging from China's film industry. These films have distinctive Chinese characteristics while telling human stories with universal significance.

Gabor Cserkesz, vice president of the Hungarian-Chinese Friendship Association, said the deep and enduring partnership between China and Hungary rests not only on economic cooperation, but should also be strengthened through bridges of ideas and culture.

He said the Imazsia Chinese Film Week provides audiences with a valuable opportunity to see, approach and understand China through Chinese cinema.

According to Viktoria Varadi, founder of the Imazsia Chinese Film Week, this year's event is supported by the China Film Administration, the Chinese Embassy in Hungary and the China Film Archive, among others.

From Sept. 11 to 18, Chinese films including "Dear You," "Journey to the West" and "A Mongolian Tale" will be screened in Budapest and Szeged, she added. Enditem
