Shou Xiaoli:

Thank you, Mr. Lu, for the introduction. Recently, we have already held a dedicated press conference regarding the preparations for the parade. If any reporters have questions of interest, you may direct them to Mr. Wu later.

Now, we invite Mr. Xia to give his briefing.

Xia Linmao:

Good morning, everyone. We are holding the commemorative events for the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. As the host city for these commemorative events, Beijing, under the leadership of the Central Commemorative Events Leading Group, has been fully committed to the preparations in strict accordance with the principle of "pursuing excellence and leaving no room for error." Together with relevant central and national departments, we have carefully studied and refined our plans, forming a list of 35 key tasks. We have conducted three comprehensive rehearsals and multiple specialized exercises, continuously optimizing and coordinating all aspects of the work. This is all in order to welcome the commemorative conference in the best possible condition and ensure the complete success of the events. I will now brief you on the relevant preparations.

First, we have adhered to the principles of upholding tradition while pursuing innovation, carefully preparing the on-site arrangements for the commemorative conference. We have drawn extensively on experiences from previous major events. Centered on the theme of the commemoration, "Remember History, Honor the Martyrs, Cherish Peace, and Forge the Future." the year-number platform, audience seating, and LED screens at Tiananmen Square, which are now visible to the public passing through the square, have all been arranged. We have emphasized coordination between the on-site arrangements and the surrounding architectural environment, highlighting not only the solemn nature and the grandeur and majestic atmosphere of the commemorative conference, but also the great triumph of the national spirit centered on patriotism. To allow more members of the public to attend, we have built temporary viewing stands. While ensuring the smooth conduct of the parade, we have positioned these stands as close as possible to Chang'an Avenue to maximize the viewing experience for the audience.

Second, we have actively and proactively provided solid service and support for the commemorative events. We have efficiently and meticulously met the needs of the troops participating in the parade. We fully supported the creation and rehearsal of the gala performances. Professional staff have been assigned to event venues and commemorative facilities, all to provide guidance and other services to citizens and visitors. In addition, we have selected a group of highly enthusiastic and professional volunteers from more than 30 universities in the capital. They will provide timely and attentive volunteer services at key locations of the commemorative events, showcasing Beijing's positive image.

Third, we have focused on improving quality and creating a harmonious and beautiful urban environment. Building upon the regular work of urban environment management and enhancement, we have made great efforts to improve the surroundings of the public. We have completed the refined management of 920 backstreets and alleys, arranged ten sets of visually striking three-dimensional flowerbeds all along Chang'an Avenue. These can be seen by anyone passing by, with five landscape bridge areas featuring roses. Local flowers have been planted in appropriate locations to provide more tangible and engaging urban garden scenes. We have also carried out in-depth actions to tackle air pollution, achieving the best air quality for the same period in history from January to July. Adhering to the principle of minimizing disturbance to residents, we have reduced the duration and scope of traffic control to the greatest extent possible, all through issued notices and guidance in advance. This will ensure the smooth conduct of the events and maintain orderly urban traffic.

Fourth, we have promoted the spirit of the War of Resistance and fostered a solemn and enthusiastic social atmosphere. To enable the public to gain a more direct and in-depth understanding of the history of the War of Resistance, we have organized a series of themed exhibitions and completed the high-quality and efficient renovation of the exhibitions at the Museum of the War of Chinese People's Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. Since opening to the public on July 8, the exhibitions have been visited by 580,000 people. They feature 1,525 photographs, 3,237 artifacts, and 45 historical videos, many of which are being displayed publicly for the first time. The exhibitions provide a comprehensive panorama of the fourteen-year-long struggle of the Chinese people during the War of Resistance. We have also organized a series of capital-specific public commemorative activities. We launched a number of themed reports and artistic works, vividly presenting the profound changes China has undergone in the 80 years since the victory of the war. This creates a stronger atmosphere throughout society for promoting the great spirit of the War of Resistance.

Fifth, we have strengthened coordination and firmly ensure the capital's safety and stability. In this process, we always regard ensuring safety as our foremost political responsibility and faithfully implement all security measures. We also step up public security management and crack down on all forms of crime. We are carrying out a fundamental campaign on workplace safety, with focused inspections and rectifications in key sectors and areas to eliminate risks and potential hazards. Every effort is being made to ensure the absolute safety of all aspects of the city's operations during the commemorative events.

On this occasion, I would like to extend my appreciation to the general public and friends from the media for their understanding, support, and attention. With six days remaining before the grand gathering, Beijing will continue preparations to the highest standards, with the strictest requirements and most practical measures. We believe that under the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee and with the concerted efforts and support of society as a whole, this commemorative event will surely be a complete success. Thank you.
