From February 1937 onward, Zhou Enlai and others, sent by the Party Central Committee, held many rounds of talks with Chiang Kai-shek and Kuomintang representatives to promote Kuomintang-Communist cooperation in armed resistance against Japan. On April 2, Zhou Enlai returned to Yan’an to report on the talks. He was welcomed by Mao Zedong and others at the airport.
