A contemporary Chinese art exhibition opened on Sept 12 in Tours, France, offering visitors a chance to appreciate works by more than 60 Chinese artists born in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s.

Organized by the Tours municipal government and Beijing Sunshine International Museum, the exhibition 60 70 80 displayed the development and transition of Chinese contemporary art in different periods.

"The exhibition selected artists born in 1960s, 1970s and 1980s because they had experienced three particular periods: The 'cultural revolution', the reform and opening-up, and economic development," exhibition curator Zhang Chi says.

"Because of their different historical backgrounds, their works featured different meanings and styles."

French visitors are expected to discover and appreciate contemporary Chinese art, consequently coming to comprehensively understand the realities of Chinese culture and society, Zhang Chi adds.

The exhibition will run until Oct 25.
