China has released a collector's edition of the translation of internationally famous academic readings, according to a seminar held Thursday on the publication of the book series organized by the China Publishing Group and the Commercial Press.

The series fall into 400 categories and amount to 490 volumes, covering acclaimed academic works on disciplines including politics, economy, culture and history.

Liu Yunshan, head of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, sent a letter of congratulations to the seminar, paying tribute to those who have committed to the translation and publication of the book series.

The translation of the book series was launched in 1982 by the China Publishing Group and the Commercial Press.

The publication of the book series reflects the reform and opening-up policy of the country and testifies to the inclusiveness and confidence of the nation, said Liu, also a member of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau.

"The books are an inspiration for the academic development in China and its modernization drive," he said.

Liu stressed the importance the role of publication plays in boosting social development and increasing exchanges with foreign countries. He urged the people in the publishing sector to reform with keen determination and work harder to enhance the communication and influence of Chinese culture.
