Miss World Singapore winner Ris Low has decided to back out of the finals at Miss World 2009 South Africa in December, local media reported on Tuesday.

Her decision comes after a slew of negative media reports, where she incurred the ire of the public for her poor English, according to local radio 938 Live.

Later, news of her conviction for credit card fraud in May also surfaced, which put her in the spotlight again.

She was sentenced to two years' probation for credit card fraud.

There was controversy on whether she could or should represent the country.

When asked if she's finally bowing down to public pressure, the 19-year-old beauty queen said that it was the best for everyone, including the company, the public and herself.

While she didn't reveal when she came to the decision, Low admitted that she's had thoughts of quitting for some time.

She says that ERM World, organizer of Miss Singapore World pageant, has been informed and supports her decision.
