Director Chen Kuo-fu is planning a three-hour DVD version of "The Message" ("Feng Sheng"), the spy thriller that has raked in 175 million yuan (US$ 26 million ) since its premiere on September 29.
The uncanny plot, set in a besieged castle, has raised heated discussion among viewers. The DVD will reveal more details about the complex relationship between its seven characters.
Starring many A-list stars including Zhou Xun and Li Bingbing, the film was the second-most profitable film of the eight-day National Day holiday, after "The Founding of A Republic" ("Jianguo Daye"), a star-studded patriotic film that has made 360 million yuan so far.
"The Message" has won six nominations at the Taiwan Golden Horse Film Festival, also known as the Asian Oscars, to be held next month. Chen says the government of Dalian, the coastal city where the film was shot, will build two castles like the ones used in the film to draw tourists.
