Chinese novelist Yan Lianke and poet Duo Duo will speak at the 2009 Singapore Writers Festival (SWF), which started on Saturday and will run until November 1.
More than 40 writers from over 20 countries and regions around the world join this year's SWF in a series of activities to discuss issues such as nationhood, literature, identity and individuality.
Organized by Singapore's National Arts Council and The Arts House, the biennial SWF is the country's only national literary festival and one of the few multilingual literary festivals in Asia, focusing on four languages - English, Malay, Chinese and Tamil.
SWF started in 1986 as Singapore Writers Week before becoming Singapore Writers Festival in 1991.
