Universal Records has formally announced the signing of pop singer Zhang Liangying aka Jane Zhang, at a press conference in Hong Kong.

Eason Chan, one of Hong Kong's leading performers, and award-winning lyricist Albert Leung attended the press conference and expressed their hope to collaborate with Jane, according to various reports.

Albert Leung, widely known as the brains behind many of pop queen Faye Wong's hits, spoke highly of Jane and said she had the potential to be the next Faye Wong.

U.S. superstar Mariah Carey, also an artist under the record label and the idol of Zhang, sent her congratulations via video.

Jane Zhang rose up through the pop scene after finishing third place in the TV talent show "Super Girl" in 2005. She's been acclaimed for her outstanding talent among all the "Super Girl" contestants, and mostly, her ability to perform western pop classics.

The singer has released four albums under the Huayi Music label and has several hit singles to her credit.

After her contract with the Huayi label expired in early this year, she signed with Universal Records in June, wanting a wider overseas market, according to earlier reports.
